Thank you for contacting the Illinois Gun Rights Alliance (ILGRA). Your engagement with us is a testament to your commitment as a bastion against unconstitutional government overreach in Illinois.
We are not a membership-based organization but a coalition of citizens, businessmen, groups, and organizations who want the freedom to exercise the ideals voiced in the Constitution and Bill of Rights so we may enjoy the promise of America and the ability to defend our families and communities.
To dismantle the recently passed gun ban legislation, we have filed suit against the state of Illinois on multiple fronts, including the restrictions on firearms, magazines, and what we call “user-related issues,” including transportation, registration, and the prohibition on parts to repair and build a firearm.
We have retained some of the country's finest Second Amendment litigation attorneys. We aren’t hiring professional fundraisers. We’re raising money through grassroots efforts across Illinois for this critical legal fight. Unlike other groups, we don’t have deep-pocketed benefactor organizations footing our legal bills here either, while fundraising as if we do not. Individuals, businesses, clubs, and organizations have stepped up to fund these suits. Yes, regular, freedom-loving people just like you. The impact of your dollars donated to one of the groups linked on our website is immeasurable. We are finalizing a 501(c)3 so that your donations will be tax deductible, but until then, please continue to steer your friends and family to our donations page to support our work. Again we aren’t paying professional fundraisers, we’re not co-mingling these funds with the operating funds of any of our group members, and nobody is getting paid trips to the Bahamas or $20,000 suits for the work they’re doing on this. We are all volunteers, and 100% of donated funds will finance this fight.
We put our website together quickly, and it remains a work in progress. We continue to add press releases to cover the big announcements of the alliance, a blog to share our thoughts on the fight, and an “In the News” section to chronicle articles and videos that focus on the activities, lawsuits, and mentions of the ILGRA. There will be a FAQ coming soon as well. Visit the site daily to keep up with all the latest news and information.
One of the most common statements we are getting from the contact form is that you have given financially all you can, but you want to continue to help the cause. How can you help? Here are a few ways:
Go to your local gun shop and ask the manager or owner if they are a member of FFL-IL. If not, ask them why and let them know that, as a customer, you would like them to, as they are on the front lines of defeating this unconstitutional legislation in court. FFL Dealers can join at their website www.fflil.org
Talk to your friends and family about the ILGRA and send them to our website to be educated and make a donation if they support what we are doing.
Take someone to the range who has never been before. Show them the benefits of the scary black guns being demonized in the media and why they are such an important tool for self-defense, particularly for women and smaller statured individuals.
Join Guns Save Life at https://www.gunssavelife.com/. They are a founding member of our alliance and have chapter meetings throughout the state open to all.
Check out the Aurora Sportsmen’s Club events and bring a friend to one. Many of them are open to the public. https://aurorasc.org/events
Attend (or maybe even host) a town-hall meeting. Don’t be afraid to show up at a town hall hosted by a supporter of the so-called “Protect Illinois Communities” gun ban. Leave your gun culture apparel at home and ask them tough questions, including why they chose to support a law that disarms victims, not criminals. If hosting, invite your friends and neighbors, even those who may not share your views, to discuss the second amendment, current infringing legislation, and tell them about what the ILGRA is doing about it. For a donation of $2000 or more to our legal defense fund, an ILGRA team member will come to your location, give up to an hour-long presentation, and answer questions.
Attend one of our fundraisers (coming in the future).
On behalf of the alliance, thank you for the kind words and support you’ve given us through the contact form. The fight will be long and may have the ups and downs of a roller coaster ride. There may be temporary setbacks along the way as well, but we won’t trade our liberty for a little temporary perceived safety and we are glad to hear that you won’t either.
Sincerely,
The Illinois Gun Rights Alliance
